I could live among plants everyday. I. Just. Absolutely. Love. Plants. You'll always spot some plants wherever I choose to reside - on my dormitory windowsill, in my terrace, and hopefully, one day, I'll have a front yard and backyard full of plants.
So it's no surprise that I made a beeline for the Botanic Gardens in Dublin, famous for its beautiful glass domed greenhouses. The Botanic Gardens boast a huge variety of plant species - ranging from succulents to rose gardens to tropical shrubs. The Botanic Gardens are situated in the North Dublin neighbourhood of Glasnevin. Dublin Bus routes 9 and 83 ply to Botanic Ave., from which the Botanic Gardens are a 7-minute walk.
Admission to the Botanic Gardens is free. Once you are in the Garden premises, you'll first see a cafe-cum-eatery to your left where you can get some beverages and even lunch.
The Botanic Gardens has several glass-roofed greenhouses, each housing a different kind of plant. For example, one greenhouse has only cacti and succulents. Another is filled with tropical plants, trees and shrubs. Another greenhouse has only orchids. Other than greenhouses, there are open-air gardens and flower beds too.

I went inside the first greenhouse I saw, and there were these very pretty flowers in pots. In most parts of the Gardens, the plants are labelled with their common names, scientific names and other facts.
I breezed through the orchid garden but I didn't take any pictures. They have a collection of rare, wild and interesting orchids. Having grown up in Singapore whose national flower is an orchid variety called Vanda Miss Joaquim, I am no stranger to orchids. I absolutely adore them and have seen loads and loads of varieties as well as carried out hybridisation experiments on orchids back in primary school.
So I'll jump over to the next greenhouse with succulents and cacti which I personally liked very much. I personally think that succulents are one of the easiest plants to care for and need the least tending to because they are structurally adapted to grow so well even with little water. They are also so pretty and come in miniature varieties. There are rows and rows of cacti and succulents in this greenhouse. So stunning!

Aren't they cute?
Moving on, these are some glimpses of the other greenhouse with tropical plants. Here, there were palms, plaintains and all that good stuff. This greenhouse was really hot and humid to mimic the tropical atmosphere.

I'm going to end off by talking about the rose garden. For me, this was the best part about my visit to the Botanic Gardens. There are roses of every shade, shape and size here! The rose shrubs are all arranged in a lovely pattern around a squarish lawn. The photographs should speak for themselves!
Bonus: they even have a rose that has been around since the 19th century.
